Our guest speaker this month is Ms. Jan McKee.  Jan is the Director of Motor Carrier Permits and Development for Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation, a position she has held since 2007.  She is responsible for providing strategic oversight and direction of permit issuance, as well as over-dimensional and over-weight policy research and development.  She is Manitoba’s representative on the National Task Force on Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Committee.  Jan has worked in a variety of progressively responsible positions in her 30 years with MIT, including involvements in transportation and regulatory administration and work with the Engineering and Operations Division.

Ms. McKee’s presentation will provide an overview of Manitoba’s truck permitting program and its impacts on highway infrastructure.  There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions following the presentation.

East Side Road Initiative – Engineering Challenges and Opportunities

November’s monthly meeting will be on the third Thursday of the month this time – Thursday, November 19th. As usual, it will take place at 12 noon at The Round Table at 800 Pembina Highway.

Our guest speaker will be James McCutchonP. Eng. James is a registered professional engineer in the provinces of Manitoba, British Columbia and Ontario, and has been involved in the delivery of a variety of transportation engineering assignments for over 25 years. During these assignments he has acted as project manager, resident engineer, design engineer, traffic engineer, quality engineer and engineering manager for various highway, bridge, interchange, road, rail, airport and surface infrastructure projects throughout Canada, the US, Malaysia and Mexico.

James’ presentation, East Side Road Initiative – Engineering Challenges and Opportunities, will be about the design and construction of a 160 km All Season Road (ASR) from PR 304 to the Berens River First Nation on the east side of Lake Winnipeg.

The first ITE Manitoba lunch meeting of the Fall will happen on Thursday, October 8th, 2009, and we’re back at The Round Table, located at 800 Pembina Highway.

Our guest speaker this month is Mr. Jim Gough, M.A.Sc., P.Eng. Jim is a Senior Project Manager in Transportation Planning and a Partner of MMM Group, in Toronto. He is also the Canadian District Director for ITE until the end of 2009. He has been acting as the CITE project manager on the update of the Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections.

Mr. Gough’s presentation is entitled: “Moving Forward with the Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections.” Jim will speak about the new 3rd Edition of the Canadian Capacity Guide for Signalized Intersections, as well as the InterCalc software which has been designed to replicate its procedures, and the program of activities CITE is using to support and promote the CCG. The new Guide is a significantly expanded resource for intersection analysis, encompassing safety, transit priority and data from across the country. There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions following the presentation.

As with all ITE Manitoba lunch meetings, the cost (including lunch) is $20 for both ITE members and guests, and $10 for student members.

Bruce Belmore will be speaking about an AECOM parking study at Regina General Hospital.  Bruce is also the President of the Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers, and will speak a bit about CITE activities and the upcoming CITE conference in Montreal in early June.  As with all ITE Manitoba lunch meetings, the cost (including lunch) is $20 for both ITE members and guests, and $10 for student members.
